Ruderalis characteristics

Ruderalis is a common cannabis strain, which originates from Central Russia. Known for a quick flowering time, there are many ruderalis characteristics which make this plant a favourite amongst growers. It is thought that this plant is the smallest type of cannabis, normally only growing between 30-80cm in height. This makes it popular with those who have a small growing space, even though the yield amounts can be less than plants such as Indica or Sativa. Cannabis Ruderalis resembles Sativa in many ways, probably because of the narrow leaves and sparse bud structure. Due to the way they look, their size and quick flowering time it is unknown whether Ruderalis evolved from Sativa or Indica, as it has the characteristics of both. This plant has adapted to grow quickly in cooler climates; one of the reasons it is so popular in the Northern Hemisphere. The entire life cycle can be completed in as little as 10 weeks, although the most common cycle is between 12 and 14 weeks. Instead of flowering once the season or climate becomes suitable, such as with most other plants, the Cannabis Ruderalis will begin to flower depending on the age of the plant. This is called auto-flowering and makes it a unique growing experience.

Smoking Cannabis Ruderalis

Ruderalis generally has a lower THC count than plants such as Sativa or Indica, with a higher count of CBD instead. It is thought that this higher level of CBD makes it a much better cannabis strain for medicinal purposes, than something with an extremely high THC content. This plant is also used often in hemp production, as opposed to always being used for recreational use. It is popular with breeders due to the auto-flowering and easy upkeep, along with the quick maturing times and small sizes. Some plants can be found to have a higher THC count and are therefore used for medicinal and recreational use, as well.
